The Wisdom of Choosing A Message Tone
Recently I got a new phone. As with all things new there is a breaking in period, a getting used to phase. I had my previous phone for about 4 years so it’s safe to say that I was definitely used to it. all the sounds every sound it made for messages and individual ringtones so when I got my new phone of course there were sounds already on the device and I just had to pick new ones. That was really hard because I was so used to my old sounds and I couldn’t transfer them over. Ok, so this new phone CAN’T personalize ringtones (or if it can, I still haven’t figured out how), then I went to sift through the text message tones. I was use to a short melodic burst of light fairy sounding bells. No such luck here, they sound really lame. So I decided to choose something different. I decided for shits and grins I would use the sound I had programed my computer’s empty recycle bin: “whiskey!!!” I am used to hearing that sound whenever I empty my bin. As cute and cheeky as I thought that was, I was still not used to hearing it outside my house, lol. My first experience came a day after I had assigned the tone when I was shopping at Family Dollar. So I’m pulling something off a shelf when I faintly hear “whiskey!!!” I thought I had imagined it. I thought to myself :”Good lord, I’m so into Matt that I’m hearing his voice wherever I go.” I shrugged it off and kept shopping. A minute later I heard it again: “Whiskey!!!” Then I realized that It was the phone. It was in my pocket.
Although It has taken me a while to get used to it, it’s been interesting living with this message tone. At first I would get a little embarrassed if there was anyone around that heard it. I wasn’t going to try to explain the meaning behind it. It would take too long to explain. It’s a Snuff Box thing. They wouldn’t understand, lol. After a couple of months, I’m still trying to get used to it. Something funny though. Now that my new phone can get twitter updates. That message tone is applied to tweets I’ve enabled as well, so it’s kind of cool when I get a message at a certain time of the morning, that can only mean that Matt has tweeted something, as anyone else I know that would be texting me at that time would be asleep, so it’s kind of like getting a text from him, lol.
